CENTER FOR BOOK ARTS
POSTER

“Create a single poster based on your research and experience with NYC design and the city itself. The theme of the poster(s) can be anything you'd like as long as it relates to your trip experiences or the city in some way. The poster(s) can be based in reality, as in a poster about NYC museum exhibits, architecture, sports, etc. The poster(s) could be about one of the creative firms we met on the trip. Or the poster(s) can be for a fabricated event or series of events.”

While on my trip to NYC, I was really inspired by the work and environment of the Center for Book Arts. I personally really admire publication design and find it is one of the most important design mediums. Publication is slowly but surely becoming a dying design form since most everything is moving to digital formats. I purchased the “Full Scale False Scale” Experimental Jetset book while I was in NYC and thought it would be a perfect subject for the poster. I asked a friend to pose with the book and took some photos. Using the bright yellow cover, I created a mostly black and white composition to allow the publication to act as the highlight. I also love experimenting with type in whatever way I can and enjoyed the process of laying out the type and textures.
